23. Exoplanet near Gliese 581 star 'could host life'

Artist's impression of Gliese 581c

A red dwarf star 20 light-years away is again providing hints that it hosts the first definitively habitable planet outside our Solar System. Robin Wordsworth, a member of the team from the Institute Pierre Simon Laplace in Paris, said that the findings were further evidence that the sheer variety of planets and environments far outpaced that which we see in our own Solar System. Dr Wordsworth said that the simulations are tantamount to a first definitive claim for a habitable exoplanet.

Now, French researchers have run computer simulations of the planet's atmosphere, arguing that it is likely to contain high concentrations of carbon dioxide. They contend that conditions could be suitable for oceans of liquid water as well as clouds and rainfall. If we find water on that planet, we can make oxygen and to make a fake atmosphere as well. The only thing is we will find water no nor. I think this observation will be a turning point on the space studying, because we won't be live on the earth forever, because the resources that we are using now is decreasing every day; therefore we have to find another "earth" in the future, and move to that "earth" in the final.

22. I.M.F. Chief May Claim Consensual Sex as a Defense

As Dominique Strauss-Kahn,the managing director of the International Money Fund, spent his first full day on Rikers Island, the hotel housekeeper who accused him of sexual assault was struggling with what her lawyer said was a life upended by the case. The woman, 32, a widowed immigrant from Guinea who was granted asylum seven years ago, has not been publicly identified and has made no public statements about what prosecutors have charged was an attack by Mr. Strauss-Kahn, a 62-year-old Frenchman, as she prepared to clean his hotel room on Saturday.

First of all, this incident will for the IMF to bring a lot of uncertainty. Kahn Mired trouble may accelerate the IMF reforms. Unless he soon clear his name, otherwise the IMF will quickly launch new leader. Although successor unlikely from Europe debt crisis immediately problem, but the new President out (even the europeans) will be a crisis after the leaders. Era this kind of thinking mode are likely to make the IMF to poorer countries common undervalued exchange rate and capital control measures, and more tolerant to try to evade the excessive debt and reform not thoroughly richer countries is more severe. Outside originally expected kahn will resign from the IMF chief duties to the French presidency, the parties have just europeans whether can keep arguing over presidency. In Brazil, China, India and Russia will enter to the international monetary fund group among top 10 shareholders, therefore, these countries recently have repeatedly called for emerging market countries should master greater discourse. Secondly, the IMF is Europe debt crisis in solving the efforts, Kahn incident may weaken the productive activities. The European Union in kahn is finance ministers in Brussels, seeking approval for the EU and the IMF provided for Portugal to 780 million euros aid plan, and to discuss further aid Greece measures. The French international radio quoted analysts words, European leaders meet no opposition, the IMF, and gets stuck and as the French Kahn could play the role of stability. The space shuttle Endeavour lifted off from Kennedy Space Center on Monday for its final mission.

NASA made final preparations for the launching of the shuttle  endeavor bouron a mission to the International Space Station, confident that it had fixed an electrical problem that grounded the spacecraft two weeks earlier. Officials reported no new major technical glitches but were keeping an eye on the weather, saying there was a chance that low clouds or high winds could postpone the launching. The mission, which is expected to last 16 days, will be the 134th and next to last in the 30-year shuttle program, with only a flight by the Atlantis, scheduled for this summer, remaining.

On May 15, Kennedy space center in Florida, space shuttle endeavour ready, is scheduled to launch on 16 local time earlier. 20. Bin Laden Is Dead, Obama Says

President Obama announced late Sunday that Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al Qaeda responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks, was killed in a firefight during an operation he ordered Sunday inside Pakistan, ending a 10-year manhunt for the world’s most wanted terrorist. American officials were in possession of his body, he said.

This man let every people around the world be afraid of terrorist threat. Since "9.11" accent, American has always been to attack the countries in the middle-east, for catching Osama bin Laden back to America. As we can see, this event is a war between a country and a man. However, whatever how strong America is, how many soldiers have America sent to middle-east, how much money that America paid for spy who is trying to get any information about Osama bin Laden. They never catch him during this ten years. Although, there is huge distance between the power of America and Osama, Osama always do the miracles that American cannot image. Now, Osama is dead, the final victory is belongs  to American.  American did a very good job to all the people around the world, because they killed the biggest leader of the terrorist in the world. I think Osama is as same as Hitler in the some way, they were getting many achievement on their leadership, they were a good leader, but they are not using their talent on a good way. So, that is why they were killed.

19. Tokyo Says Radiation in Water Puts Infants at Risk

Radioactive iodine detected in the capital’s water supply spurred a warning for infants on Wednesday and the government issued a stark new estimate about the costs of rebuilding from the earthquake and tsunami that slammed into the northeast of Japan this month. The head of water purification for the Tokyo water department, said at a televised news conference that infants in Tokyo and surrounding areas should not drink tap water. He said iodine-131 had been detected in water samples at a level of 210 Becquerel per liter, about a quart. The recommended limit for infants is 100 becquerels per liter. For adults, the recommended limit is 300 Becquerel.

When I heard this news, I think the next generation of Japanese which is effected by the radiation this time will be not as smart as others' normal infants. This incident is quite similar to the incident of milk powder which was happened a few years ago in China. The consequences in th final was every babies who drunk that milk powder, their heads are bigger than others babies who did not drink those milk powder.  Because the company which was manufacture these milk powder, was add melamine into these milk powder. I think the consequences of these two things was put infants at risk.

18. CF-18s to join Libya mission soon: MacKay

Six CF-18s left CFB Bagotville in Quebec on Friday to join the Western air coalition to enforce a UN no-fly zone over Libya.

Canadian warplanes committed to a Western coalition air campaign over Libya will be enforcing a no-fly zone within 48 hours, Defence Minister Peter MacKay said Sunday. The announcement comes a day after U.S. and European air strikes began on Libyan ruler Moammar Gadhafi's forces and air defences to halt their bloody crackdown on rebels in the country's east.

Allies have already attacked Libya's airport, and major ground target, and also some tanks and vehicles. In this circumstance, Canada send CF-18s to join into Libya mission, the victory of this war is absolutely belong to Allies. But, why do not them to solve the problem by a peaceful way. Our human have already being through twice World Wars and many small wars between countries. Why we still have to make an another war.

17. U.S. Missiles Strike Libyan Air-Defense Targets

American and European forces began a broad campaign of strikes against the government of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafion Saturday, unleashing warplanes and missiles in a military intervention on a scale not seen in the Arab world since the Iraq war. The United States Navy destroyer Barry fired Tomahawk missiles from the Mediterranean Sea on Saturday. The mission to impose a United Nations-sanctioned no-fly zone and keep Colonel Qaddafi from using air power against beleaguered rebel forces was portrayed by Pentagon and NATO officials as under French and British leadership. But the Pentagon said that American forces were mounting an initial campaign to knock out Libya’s air-defense systems, firing volley after volley of Tomahawk missiles from nearby ships against missile, radar and communications centers around Tripoli, the capital, and the western cities of Misurata and Surt.

The main barrage of missile strikes began around 2 p.m. Eastern time, when American Navy ships fired cruise missiles that struck Libya roughly an hour later, Vice Adm. William Gortney told reporters in Washington. He said the Pentagon did not yet have assessments of the damage the missiles had caused and would not know until dawn broke in Libya. The missile strikes were the start of what Admiral Gortney called a “multiphase operation” to create a no-flight zone that would allow coalition aircraft to fly all over Libya without the risk of being shot down. He would not say whether American aircraft would be involved in the no-flight zone, but he said that no American warplanes aircraft were directly over Libya on Saturday afternoon.

16. Japan Finds Contaminated Food Up to 90 Miles From Nuclear Sites

The government said Saturday that it had found higher than normal levels of radioactive materials in spinach and milk at farms up to 90 miles away from the ravaged nuclear power plants, the first confirmation by officials that the unfolding nuclear crisis has affected the nation’s food supply. While officials played down the immediate risks to consumers, the findings further unsettled a nation worried about the long-term effects of the damaged nuclear power plants.

The Tokyo Electric Power Company, with help from the Japan Self-Defense Force, police officers and firefighters, continued efforts to cool the damaged reactors on Saturday to try to stave off a further fuel meltdown and stem the radiation leak. The latest plan involved running a mile-long electrical transmission line to Reactor No. 2 at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station to try to restore power to its cooling system. About 500 workers from the utility connected the power line on Saturday. They were checking the cooling system, which has been disabled since the earthquake and tsunami hit more than a week ago, and hope to try to restart it on Sunday. If this incident still happened among Japanese, I think there are a lot of Japanese people will be effected in the future. If Japan export these products, it will effect others country as well. In the final, this will be another global problem.

15. Dozens of Protesters Are Killed in Yemen

Yemen’s pro-democracy protests exploded into violence on Friday, as government supporters opened fire on demonstrators in this capital, killing at least 45 people and wounding more than 200. The bloodshed failed to disperse the angry throng of tens of thousands of protesters, the largest seen so far in a month of demonstrations calling for the ouster of President Ali Abdullah SalehMr. Saleh declared a state of emergency shortly after the shootings, denying that security forces had been involved and promising a full investigation. The state news agency said the state of emergency would last 30 days.

Since the protests happened in Egypt, some of Africa country have started to do the same thing as what was just happened in th Egypt in February.  Ten thousands of Yemeni request Mr. Saleh quit office. A lot of protests gathered near the University of Sana's square.  Yemen security forces opened fire on demonstrators, to stop them from marching, causing the square killed at least 41 people. After the incident, yemen's interior minister MaSuLi put the toll at 25, and announced a curfew. This incident just like what PLA did to Chinese university students in June 4th, 1989. Because of the difference from system of countries, that is why demonstration is always happened. The problem is what kind of way should government use for stopping the demonstration. As this case, Yemen forces fired on their own country's people, this is why others country has started opposed Yemen's action.

14. Japan’s Meltdown and the Global Economy’s

Japan level 9 earthquake on Richter Scale, the damage continues to grow. Miyagi prefectural police made the judgement that the earthquake and resulting tsunami will certainly lead to thousands of people died on March 13th.  Tokyo stocks market has started to slumped on March 14th. The Japanese central bank currently has injected 7 trillion to stocks market urgently.

The earthquake disaster in Japan suffered heavy losses to the Japanese mainland, it will also affect the international political and economic situation in the future. People will worried about  the global economic recovery which is just re-stabilize. In addition, China, Japan, South Korea and India leading the Asian Regional Economic Integration in East Asia and will thus speed up in the process, the U.S.dominance in East Asia will be weakened. First, because of the disaster , Japan's GDP  will be drastic shrinkage in short term, as theworld's third largest economy and the largest debtor in the Japanese economy has shrunk, is bound to drag on the growth of global economicSecond, commodity prices is continuing to rise on the previous basis. However, the Bank of Japan through the "print money"way to carry out earthquake relief and reconstruction.  from the appreciation of the channel is bound to lead to return to the yen depreciation cycle, which contribute to global over-expansion.Third, countries have to review or suspend the nuclear program, and even nuclear power plant shutdown, the short term is bound to increase pressure on global energy supply, as previously in the East and North Africa the situation has dramatically pulled up international oil prices to oil prices as a sign of the energy crisis.

13. Obama Warns Libya on Allied Action

President Obama told Col. Muammar el-Quddafi on March 18th to carry out an immediate cease-fire and stop all attacks on Libyan civilians or face military action from the United States and its allies in Europe and the Arab world. In one of his most forceful statements as president, Mr. Obama said that his demands were not negotiable: Colonel Qaddafi had to pull his forces back from Libya’s major cities or the United States and its allies would step in. The president said that he was forced to act because Colonel Qaddafi had turned on his people and had shown, Mr. Obama said, “no mercy on his own citizens.”

The Libyan government announced a cease-fire just hours after the United Nations Security Council approved a resolution authorizing military action against Colonel Qadaffi to protect Libyan civilians. But rebel spokesmen said government forces attacked several locations on March 18th. On March 18th, United Nations Security council decided to establish a "no-fly zones" in Libya,  hope Libya's recently situation will be stable as soon as possible, and also avoid the armed conflicts upgrades and more serious humanitarian crisis. The conflict between countries is always happened.  In fact, I do not think the bill that United Nations Security Council decided is not quite good, because considering the currently special cases  of Arab countries and the Au's concerns and position with Libya. Just let them handle this, the better way is we do not step in as America.

12. U.S. Calls Radiation ‘Extremely High’ and Urges Deeper Caution in Japan

The chairman of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission gave a significantly bleaker appraisal of the threat posed by Japan’s nuclear crisis than the Japanese government, saying on Wednesday that the damage at one crippled reactor was much more serious than Japanese officials had acknowledged and advising Americans to evacuate a wider area around the plant than the perimeter established by Japan. The announcement marked a new and ominous chapter in the five-day long effort by Japanese engineers to bring four side-by-side reactors under control after their cooling systems were knocked out by an earthquake and tsunami last Friday.

There has already three explosions of Japanese nuclear plant by March 16th. The Japan emperor said in the speech through television to all Japanese, this unprecedented huge earthquake that many people were killed, and many people lost their home. "The number of victims in continuing to rise, exactly how many people were killed, and we don't know yet, I feel very heartache." Although, lots of countries had sent their rescue teams to Japan for helping. The nuclear plant was effected very gravely. However, we also can see Japanese are very strong, although there are so many people have lost their family or their relative, they still help others people to rescue the victims. I think Sendai and the cities which was effected by Earthquake, Tsunami and Nuclear Plant, Japanese will rebuild these cities as they were.

11. Japan’s Nuclear Crisis, Earthquake and Tsunami

March 11th 1: 46  in Canada time, there is 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami near Maurizio, Japan. Triggered large collapsed houses, airport flooded, railway, paralysis, nuclear power plant explosion caused by volcanic eruption, heavy casualties. Japan, the Pacific island in 72 hours, experienced "life and death" baptism
【图片特刊】日本震后72小时全记录
There were already 4700 Japanese died and almost 10,000 missing during the earthquake and Tsunami by March 14th. This earthquake is one of the most biggest in Japan's history. After earthquake, stocks-market was effected a lot; and Japanese cannot get water or food in supermarket; these thing let Japan lost 10 trillion. After Earthquake, Japan Nuclear power plant also was effected a lot during these few days, and even the nuclear power was reveal as well. The earthquake has triggered the Tsunami as well, the photo which is above showed the scene which is after the Tsunami in Sendai.

10. Even in Wealthy Town, Schools Feel Pinch

This wealthy New York suburb prides itself on its public schools. Class sizes are small. Students can choose from an array of subjects not offered everywhere. Teacher pay ranks among the nation’s highest. And voters long approved high real estate taxes to pay for it all. But even here — as in other affluent enclaves — corners are being cut, bringing home the wrenching debate that has caused turmoil in so many other communities. What some really fear is that the cuts will continue.

According to this news, the great depression strongly effected American society, even in the school. As we know, schools always have money to operate because public schools can get money from government for operation. However, the depression happened again; therefore, all the western countries are in a big problem. Therefore, schools cannot get any funding from government. Now, I really hope that Americans can walk out the shadow of depression as they did in the 1920s.

9. Chinese Move to Stop Reporting on Protests

The Chinese police, citing newly enacted restrictions on journalists, has moved to forcefully prevent foreign reporters from covering public protests that have been largely nonexistent, establishing “no reporting” zones in Shanghai and Beijing and, in one case, beating a videographer and injuring two other reporters. "The police provided reasonable guidance, and the journalists should understand and cooperate," the spokeswoman said at a regular news conference. "If both sides take this attitude, we can minimize the occurrence of such incidents."
State security forces have also placed scores of dissidents and rights advocates under surveillance in recent days and tightened censorship to prevent word of the so-called Jasmine rallies from spreading on the Internet or via micro-blogs. Officials have informed a number of reporters and photographers that one of the capital’s main shopping districts, Wangfujing, and People’s Park in the heart of Shanghai are either off limits or require a special permit for the taking of photographs and the conducting of interviews. As you can see, the Chinese government started to block the news again, and stopped people from reporting on protests again. Police from government just put the protests down. Although China is not a capitalist nation, it has responsibility to let world know what is going on within China, because people are more and more pay attention to China right now. In my opinion, China has to stop reporting on protests; let the world understand China more.

8. Berlusconi to Face Trial in Underage Prostitution Case

A Milan judge on Tuesday ordered Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to stand trial in April on charges of paying an under-age girl for sex and abuse of office, dealing the most serious blow to his leadership in the 17 years that he has dominated Italian politics. In a brief statement, the judge said the trial would start on April 6. Mr. Berlusconi faces charges that he paid for sex with Karima el-Mahroug, then an under-age nightclub dancer nicknamed Ruby Heart-Stealer, and that he abused his office to help release her from police custody when she was detained for theft. The scandal has dominated political debate in Italy for months.

We can see the corruption of government, even the prime minister of Italian could involved in the prostitution case. Hope the government of Italian beware on these case will happen again. For the leader of a country, you have responsibility to make a good image to your citizens; and also you have to do something that is very good to your citizens. As you can see, when this case appeared, Italian is very disappointed about their government. When the country's election is coming, citizens won't vote to the party which Silvio Berlusconi used be in. That is why this case is making a really bad influence to his party and the government of Italy.

7. Mubarak Steps Down, Ceding Power to Military

President Hosini Mubarak of Egypt resigned his post and turned over all power to the military on Friday, ending his nearly 30 years of autocratic rule and bowing to a historic popular uprising that has transformed politics in Egypt and around the Arab world. The streets of Cairo exploded in shouts of “God is Great” moments after Mr. Mubarak’s vice president and longtime intelligence chief, Omar Suleiman, announced during evening prayers that Mr. Mubarak had passed all authority to a council of military leaders.

In my opinion, Mr. Mubarak did a good choice for ceding sort of power to military in this kind of time. In facet, he according to the constitution will be partly handed over power vice President, he himself not quit the presidency, and says the requirement of constitutional partially modify, involving the nomination, presidential term, etc. Meanwhile, in his speech he reiterated that he won't leave Egypt, but will "died in Egypt on the land." According to this sentence, I think Mr. Mubarak will com back in the right time, when Egypt is getting better. Egypt was going through a hard time, so this country really needs a fair election to select a nice president to let Egypt going better and better.

6. Korea Talks Ended Abruptly Without Any Ease in Strains

 korea
Military discussions between North and South Korea ended on Wednesday with no improvement in their badly strained relations and no agreement about whether to hold more substantive talks in the future. A Defense Ministry official in Seoul said the talks ended abruptly at 2:30 p.m. when the North Korean delegation “unilaterally walked away from the table and out of the meeting room.” South Korea's defense ministry officials say the meeting also failed to decide the next round of talks work schedule. Both sides is high level for military talks issues, and finally intercedes wide divergence.

In China, there is a poem which is about the relationship between brothers, because inheriting crown, the old brother was planning to kill his own brother. I think North Korea and South Korea was a country, but split to two countries now. Although there are many problems between these two countries, such as the conflict happened just a few months ago. How to solve the relationship between these "brothers", it is up to them, does not need others "people" to help them.

4. Crackdown in Egypt Widens but Officials Offer Concessions

The Egyptian government on Thursday broadened its crackdown on a 10-day uprising that has shaken its rule, arresting journalists and human rights advocates across city, while offering more concessions in a bid to win support from a population growing frustrated with a devastated economy and scenes of chaos in the streets. The campaign was a startling blend of the oldest tactics of an authoritarian government — stoking fears of foreigners — with the air of sincerity of a repentant order.

As protesters battled crowds rallied by the government for a second day, organizers sought to rally even bigger demonstrations for Friday — dubbed the “Friday of departure” — in hopes of keeping the momentum behind a popular uprising that has demanded that Mr. Mubarak step down after three decades in power. At the same time, Egypt vice President with opposition representatives held a dialogue, where the two sides agreed to set up a special committee, study constitutional and legislative reform, etc on 6th, Feb. According to the dialogue after statement, the committee shall be established in the late early march, members include judicial and politicians. Statement that opposition agreed to President Hosni Mubarak after September this year, and ensure no longer seek reelection peaceful transition and free and fair elections. The statement also said, the parties agree that would also set up another committee, handle to lift media restrictions and depending on national security situation of emergency problem such as end.

3. Egypt’s Economy Is Near Paralysis

Egypt's economy approached paralysis on Monday as foreign commerce, tourism and banking all but halted, placing acute pressure on President Hosni Mubarak to find a way out of the weeklong chaos. International companies closed plants and sent workers home or out of the country; food staples went undelivered to stores; and banks remained closed during a week when many Egyptians, who are routinely paid monthly, would receive their paychecks. A major ratings agency cut the country’s bond rating, while shortages led to rising prices.
In my opionon, I think this event concern the the new president of Egypt---Hosni Mubarak, he reshuffled his government on Monday, this gesture that the opposition has already dismissed as inadequate. Therefore, Egypt's people is dissatisfied, Egypt's people want to removal Hosni Mubarak Hosni Mubarak also started to use force to against Egypt's people. According to this event, that is why Egypt's economy is approaching to paralysis. " 'The protests’ crippling effects could give Mr. Mubarak and his new cabinet perhaps only a few weeks to re-establish order before shortages, rising unemployment and a deep crisis set in." economists said.

2. Orange Customers of Everything Everywhere Get Mobile Payments

Contactless technology
Paying for a sandwich will soon be possible via a mobile phone as operator Orange rolls out what it claims is the UK's first mobile payments service. The service, due for launch in summer 2011, sees the phone operator partnering with payments firm Barclaycard. More services are expected to roll out in the run up to the 2012 Olympics. By the time of the Olympics it is expected that transactions, transport and tickets will all be available via contactless technology.
If this technology will be normal stuff in our real life. It will offer a lot of convenience to us. Imagine if "Mobile Wallet" this kind of technology is coming true. We just only take a mobile then everything is done. Such as shopping, subway, taxi and etc. I hope this technology is coming soon, that I do just need to bring my mobile when I go outside. The London games is seen as an epicentre for contactless payments, with sponsors such as Visa and Transport for London heavily involved in so-called Near Field Communication (NFC), the short range wireless technology that underpins many wireless payment systems. Many phones already contain NFC technology, including Google's recently released Nexus S. Firms such as Nokia and Blackberry are also beginning to work with the technology. It is rumoured that Apple will also incorporate NFC in its next iPhone.
